![]() You can hear yourself breathe and see your breath fog up the glass dome inches from your face as you slowly trudge through the silt of the deep abyss.ĭiving suits like the one featured in Windows PC survival game Narcosis were first invented in the 1700s. The feeling is even more oppressive when wearing a pair of headphones. The virtual atmospheric diving suit is confining, claustrophobic when viewed through the Oculus Rift headset. The game can be a little short, you can probably complete it in 3 hours if you're not going after achievements and it is a little expensive.Īlright now that I told you this Narcosis is an interesting atmospheric horror game, with a really good story, good gameplay and really good collectibles, so I do recommend this game, but I will say that you may need a little bit of patience, also I suggest waiting for it to be on sale to save a few bucks. The developers call it a walking coffin and after a few minutes of play time using the Oculus Rift I understand why. There were some parts in the game that were a little dull, but I did not really mind it, also there are these three types of predators in the game the big cuttlefish, these angler fish and invincible crabs that can basically kill you in one hit, they weren't challenging, just really annoying. Okay so the dislikes, even though I said the gameplay was good there is some problem with the movements, basically you have a boost power that helps you get over gaps or move quicker for a short time, problem is it can be a bit hard to control, I know it's sort of realistic since you're under the water, but I found it a bit frustrating. Now is this game scary as someone who's played a lot of horror games sometimes, but I think those who suffer from a phobia of the ocean will definitely find it a lot more scarier, also the game does have some good use of psychological horror with showing weird distorted images and creepy stuff. The DLC is nice we get to hear the music and read a novelization of the game. The collectibles were really good because it helped made the crew of this station seem like real people with lives of their own. ![]() The atmosphere was good had a nice feeling of being alone under the deep dark depth of the ocean, in a way it's sort of lovecraftian just swap out the old ones with the unrelenting darkness and pressure of the ocean and its inhabitants that have been around for millions of years. The music was good definitely helped with the atmosphere. The puzzles were okay not too challenging you can pretty much solve them by some thought or by brute forcing it. The levels are really good a bit diverse that captures the feeling of being under the sea in a destroyed underwater base with creatures wanting to kill you. The gameplay is good it’s rather simple it's basically a walking simulator with some light platforming and light combat, as well as some simple puzzles. The graphics are really good with a nice use of somber colors that makes you feel alone and makes it feel like you're under the ocean. Okay so the likes, the story is really good it tells a harrowing story of a man facing unbelievable odds against the unthinkable as he desperately tries to survive contending with the dark under sea ocean and its hostile life, I also liked in the background there's an interview going on with the survivor of that incident, which added a touch of realism. Soon 20 people are assigned to the base as its first operatives, but then the unthinkable happens, an undersea earthquake causing mass damage and leaving one man to face the cold under sea horror as he desperately tries to escape. In the deep Pacific Ocean an underwater base is harvesting methane from the deposits under the Earth, it's a difficult job that requires not only a strong will, but discipline and intellect. Narcosis is an interesting atmospheric horror game, now then the story.
